A message from our outgoing Director, Deb Nemeth:
As some of you may know, I will be leaving 1000 Friends as Executive Director as of April 1, 2025. I have learned so much over the years from all of you, the amazing staff and dedicated board. It has been a privilege to be a part of this organization as it has evolved to meet current needs over the years without losing site of the original mission.
Please join me in welcoming Trevor Roark as the new 1000 Friends Executive Director based in Stevens Point. Check out his broad background experience! There is no doubt I am leaving 1000 Friends in good hands with Trevor and our incredible staff!
Trevor Roark will officially take the position of Executive Director of 1000 Friends of Wisconsin on April 1, 2025!

With a bachelor’s degree in natural resources from UW-Stevens Point and as a long-time climate activist, Trevor Roark has volunteered & advocated with 1000 Friends on and off for over 10 years. His most recent experience as a student of the Community Transportation Academy in Stevens Point (fall 2023) solidified his understanding of how critical 1000 Friends’ work is for Wisconsin communities’ sustainability, equity, & resilience.
Trevor built skillsets through various positions over the last 20 years – from seasonal Fisheries/Hydrology positions with the USFS (Hiawatha, Chequamegon/Nicolet, & Tongass National Forests), to performing/managing the band Green Tea, to 6 years in the WI Army National Guard, to working for United Way of Portage County, and running the UWSP Adventure Tours program. Most recently, he founded the bicycle-powered delivery service curbwise LLC, delivering everything from groceries to Xmas trees throughout Central WI. Trevor has also founded, participated in, or led volunteer efforts including the Stevens Point Skate Park Committee, 1000 Friends of Wisconsin, 350 Stevens Point, Stevens Point’s Bicycle & Pedestrian Street Safety Commission, local Bike Rodeos & Walking School Bus, SS4A Task Force, Zoned Out campaign, and the Climate Action Collective. Yet, he’s no stranger to grant writing too; co-authoring successful Transportation Alternative Program, Safe Streets & Roads for All, Community Foundation of Central WI, and United Way of Portage County grants.
In Trevor’s free time, he loves exploring City parks & WI State Parks with his wife and kiddos, riding bikes daily, playing soccer, hanging with friends, shopping at the farmers’ market, and gardening.
I’m extremely excited and honored to become the new Executive Director for 1000 Friends of Wisconsin. I’m eager to hit the ground running (or most likely, biking), learning and connecting, and leading this critical org into its next phase of growing collaborations, expanding coalitions, and building community resilience. Deb is leaving some big shoes to fill, but I do love a good challenge! –Trevor Roark
